A local artist is holding a one night only exhibition at the Kite Studios in Shepherd’s Bush this week displaying work created in a unique style.

Louise Richards is a visual artist based recently graduated from Central Saint Martins with an MA in Fine Art in 2021.

Her art journey has been nurtured through Kite Studios, where she developed her practice from Art Foundation to completing an MA Fine Art Course at Central Saint Martins in 2021. Currently, Louise is preparing to embark on a Professional Doctorate starting in September 2024.

The domestic environment and everyday aesthetics heavily influence her art practice, which became especially significant during lockdown when her home became her primary muse. Since then, she has continued to explore, repurpose, and reuse items found within her home to create artwork.

The series of prints displayed at Kite Studios is titled "The Chopping Board Series." In this series, she utilises a chopping board as a background texture, applying ink directly onto it and then taking a print. Louise further embellishes these prints with other household objects, such as sponges, which she also applies ink to. Sometimes, Louise works with wet-on-wet techniques, relishing the interplay of colours blending, while at other times, she allows the prints to dry naturally. Then palette knives and other tools are used to add additional marks and textures onto the prints. Louise often works on two prints simultaneously, allowing for a fluid and dynamic creative process.

For One Night Only the Chopping Board Series Opening Event at Kite Studios at 2B Bassein Park Road, W12 9RY on Thursday 18 April from 6-8pm. Afterwards the work can be viewed by appointment only.
