Celebrity Opens Canberra Fair
Presenter and DJ, Chris Evans, is opening the summer fair
Presenter and DJ, Chris Evans, is opening Canberra Primary School’s summer fair on Friday (July 8) after a chance encounter.
The One Show front-man will be at the event at the Australia Road school, which runs from 1.30pm – 4pm, before heading to BBC Television Centre to film his popular evening programme.
Mr Evans agreed to guest star at the fair when he met one of the organisers, early years manager, Nicola Hughes. She said: “We are just next door to the BBC and I bumped into him on his lunch break, so I just asked him if he would open the fair and he just said ‘yes’!”
It is the first time in three years since the summer fair has been held at the school and it is hoped it will now become an annual event.
All of Canberra’s 400 pupils have helped plan the day, by making suggestions for events like face-painting, ‘score the most goals’ competition and throw ‘a sponge at the teacher’.
There will also be officers from the local fire service, a hook a duck competition, a tombola, and a raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses.
