Hammersmith Community Gardens Association is inviting local residents to join a volunteer gardening day on Saturday September 27 at Phoenix School Farm in Bloemfontein Road.

The association says the day is suitable for all the family with jobs including watering, digging, planting, weeding and harvesting.

Volunteers can stay for an hour or stay all day and there is no need to book, just turn up between 10am and 4pm.

Tools and Wellington boots will be provided.

Hammersmith Community Gardens Association manages Phoenix School Farm on behalf of the Phoenix High School.

Started in 2007, the one acre farm in White City provides a learning resource for the school, local community groups and offers volunteering opportunities for local residents.

Comprising of two glasshouses and a series of beds, fruit and vegetables of all description are produced together with medicinal herbs, plants to attract wildlife, and edible flowers.
