HS2 Ltd has confirmed that planned works could mean that Old Oak Common Lane needs to be closed for several years.

Although the details of the work have not been finalised, they need to undertake work to divert utilities and build new rail bridges to realign the Great Western Mainline. In addition, the road needs to be lowered and widened to allow double decker buses to go under the Great Western Mainline rail bridge which crosses over the road to access the new Old Oak Common station.

At this stage the company is consulting with members of the community and the three local authorities that will be affected by the plans. One of the scenarios would see the road closed for up to four years but it says that further work and modelling would need to be done before the final plan is drawn up.

Residents have already expressed concerns about traffic and access to their homes particular with the alternative route via Victoria Road often flooding meaning there would be no direct link between East Acton and Park Royal.

HS2 Ltd says that it already has over a thousand workers a day on site at the project to build what will be the largest ever station constructed in one go in the UK with 14 platforms.

A HS2 Ltd spokesperson said, "In order to undertake utility diversion works, build new rail bridges, and lower and widen Old Oak Common Lane to allow for double decker buses to serve the station, we need to close Old Oak Common Lane for a period of time. HS2 takes it responsibilities to local communities very seriously and we try to minimise impacts wherever possible. We are in dialogue with residents about the works required and the options for the closure of Old Oak Common Lane.”
