There was a surprise volunteer at this year Big H&F Christmas Day Lunch with actor Hugh Grant turning up to lend a hand.

The star of the Paddington films and Notting Hill weighed to serve a festive meal to 500 elderly local residents at the Novotel Hotel in Hammersmith.

The annual event which is organised by H&F Giving and Hammersmith and Fulham Council provides a free two course dinner plus live music to older people who might find themselves alone on 25 December.

Anyone over 60 who lives in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham can register to attend the event.

A Hammersmith and Fulham Council spokesperson said, "Thanks to everyone who joined us at the annual Big H&F Christmas Day Lunch - including a very special guest, Hugh Grant.

"Hugh helped us serve lunch to 500 local older people who otherwise would have celebrated alone. This was the real Love Actually."

The 63-year-old actor attended Latymer School in Hammersmith.
