Today, March 13, Hammersmith & Fulham Volunteer Centre is hosting a volunteering fair at Hammersmith Town Hall from 12pm-5pm.

The aim is to invite people interested in volunteering in the borough to have a chat with local organisations about the work they do and the volunteering opportunities on offer.

There will also be volunteering related workshops and presentations.

More than 25 local charitable organisations will be at the volunteering fair, including the Citizens Advice Bureau, Victim Support, Contact the Elderly, Stoll and The Thomas Pocklington Trust.

Despite being the third smallest London borough in terms of population, H&F has one of the highest levels of people volunteering in their neighbourhoods and communities, according to Greater London Volunteering, the regional partnership body for volunteering in London.

Recent figures collated by HFVC show that the voluntary organisation, that helps link up volunteers with projects and organisations locally, engaged and supported almost 5,000 residents last year.

Dominic Pinkney, HFVC chief operating officer, says: "These figures show both the great work of the Volunteer Centre in encouraging and facilitating volunteering across the borough as well as the fantastic community spirit of local people, with thousands of local residents and employees supporting the community through giving their time and expertise.

" In addition to being the volunteer recruitment service to the hundreds of local voluntary and community organisations, volunteering is also a gateway to opportunities for many isolated and disadvantaged people, providing essential skills, experience, confidence and contacts to reach their goals."
