Members of Artists At Home are donating works of art and crafts to raise money for The Upper Room and seeking bidders to help this local charity. The second online auction in 2021 raised £4,690 for The Upper Room, a significant sum which the organisers hope to match this year.
Bidding will take place on the Jumblebee auction platform and starts at 10am on Wednesday 16 November and closes at 9pm on Sunday 27 November.
There’s will be a wide range of lots including paintings, prints, jewellery, ceramics, and accessories. And starting bids are well below the artists’ usual prices.
Kathryn Davey, Chair of Artists At Home said, "We are delighted to be running our third online auction in support of the Upper Room charity this year. With the cost-of-living crisis, bills are rising faster than average household incomes this winter, meaning it’s even more important to support our local community. Our artists are donating a minimum of 50% of the bidding price, and some 100%, which will improve the lives of the very vulnerable providing food, accommodation, and support into employment".
John Horton, Director of Horton and Garton, Chiswick, sponsors of Artists At Home commented, “A local lifeline for the vulnerable and socially disadvantaged, The Upper Room provide not only the immediate needs such as food, clothing and toiletries but help individuals move forward with their lives. From offering counselling to assisting with job searches, they play such a valuable role in our community and are wholly deserving of the donation generated by the Artists at Home auction this Christmas”.
Chris Francis, CEO of The Upper Room, added, “We are delighted that Artists at Home are once again organising an online Auction on behalf of The Upper Room. The cost-of-living crisis is hitting our guests hard, and we have seen a huge increase in demand for our services in the past 12 months. We are now routinely feeding 100 people a day which is an increase of 185% from the start of the year, and we fear that this figure will inevitably rise as winter approaches. We are incredibly grateful to the artists who are generously donating 50-100% of the proceeds to us. Every pound raised will make a significant difference in enabling us to support so many people in need in our local community”.
