H & F Council announces £300,000 to be spent improving facilities

Shepherd's Bush's most famous sports facility, Linford Christie Outdoor Sports Centre is to be refurbished.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council has announced that it intends to spend more than £300,000 improving the changing rooms and toilets, repairing the leaking roof and upgrading the kitchen facilities within the club house.

The centre, at the southern end of Wormwood Scrubs was built in 1967 and is home to many of the borough’s leading sports clubs, including the Thames Valley Harriers athletics club and Chiswick Hockey.

It features, amongst other things, an eight-lane 400-metre track, a spectator stand and floodlit training facilities, a full size all weather pitch and four 5-side football pitches.

Work on the centre, at Artillery Way off Du Cane Road, is likely to begin later this year.

H&F Council deputy leader, Cllr Greg Smith says:" Many of the clubs who use the Linford Christie Centre have been calling for improvements for some time and we are delighted that we will now be going ahead with this scheme.

"Sport is one of the best ways to stay healthy and
I am sure people will enjoy using these new facilities."
