Uxbridge Road in Shepherd's Bush was brought to a halt for almost two hours on Wednesday 1 April as ambulance, fire and police services teamed up using an aerial ladder to remove a patient with suspected Covid-19 symptoms from a second floor flat.

Fire crews from Hammersmith, Wembley and Paddington fire station were at the scene, assisting London Ambulance Service crews while police closed a section of the road close to the junction with Hetley Road.

Firefighters were breathing air but wore respirators with a filter to remove airborne particles.

The patient was brought to ground floor level via the aerial ladder platform and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

Fire crews who were in contact with the patient were safely undressed from their personal protective equipment. Their facemasks, boots and helmet were decontaminated at scene. Any equipment used at the incident was also washed with solution. Tunics and leggings were double bagged and sent for cleaning.

London Fire Brigade says it was called at 4.01pm and the incident was over at 6.55pm.
