Cat Lovers' Cafe Coming to Westfield by Christmas

Java Whiskers offers the chance to meet a new feline friend over coffee

Will you be able to resist adopting a kitten?

A cafe which offers animal lovers the chance to meet - and potentially adopt - a previously homeless cat or kitten is planning to open at Westfield in December.

Java Whiskers already has one popular cat filled cafe in Marylebone which it says has already achieved over 200 successful adoptions. Its first cafe, in Stockholm has also been a big hit with Swedish feline fans.

The cafe says it offers a unique experience enhancing both the cats’ and guests’ well-being, adding: “ Together with the public and our partners, we wish to find forever homes for homeless cats, while being a relaxing haven for our guests to ‘paws’ and enjoy in an otherwise busy world.

“Our café offers guests the opportunity to slow down and relax, while enjoying the purring company of our feline residents, helping to ease stress and decrease loneliness. Whilst the cats get the attention and love they’re craving, and for the souls that experience hardship earlier in life, they get a chance to rebuild trust in humans.”

As well as serving up a menu of drinks and snacks, the cafe has teamed up with The Scratching Post sanctuary in Waltham Abbey to provide a foster home for cats of all ages in need of new homes, and it says visitors regularly fall in love at first sight with one of its residents.

Should this happen, the visitor can complete an application form and if chosen as a potential adopter, will be contacted by the manager of The Scratching Post for a virtual homecheck.

If this is successful, the new owner can pick up their cat from the cafe two weeks later. The adoption fee is £80 per cat, which covers microchip, spaying, the first set of vaccinations, veterinarian check and worming & flea treatment. Find out more on this link.

The new cafe is the first pet service at Westfield dedicated to cats. The White City shopping centre already caters to dogs with Urban Mutts, which offers a hotel, daycare social club and of course a grooming parlour.
