Foundation Launched in Memory of 'Remarkable' Teenager Sam Griffiths

Charitable trust is offering a unique opportunity to win a holiday of a lifetime

The Sam Griffiths Foundation is a charitable trust which has been established to honour the name of a remarkable young man who died in a tragic accident in January 2009.

Sam was positive and optimistic with a genuine concern for the welfare of others. He possessed a well developed sense of fairness and was opposed to cruelty, prejudice and injustice.

The overarching theme of the Foundation is Helping The Young Help The Young. It is capturing the energy of young people by building their awareness of those less fortunate than themselves.

The Foundation is mobilising those young people by introducing them to projects run by our partner charities. These projects are aimed at building confidence and building skills amongst disadvantaged youngsters at home and abroad through Sports, Arts and Education.

They are already in discussions with The Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith to support a peer mentoring programme, Give It Your Max, a tennis charity, with a view to providing coaches and facilities for disadvantaged children who can use tennis to build skills and confidence and with Students Partnership Worldwide, which runs projects in Africa and Asia, and offered funding for volunteers who want to build their awareness of development issues.

The Foundation aims to encourage and nurture the raw enthusiasm which so many young people have to help those less fortunate than themselves. It will provide the support and funding to allow young people to identify and execute projects which will make life better for other young people.

Ultimately it will be Sam’s generation which drives the Foundation forward. It is a project for life.

The Foundation will harness the commitment of Sam’s generation to help the young but it needs a financial commitment from others to make the short term dream a long term reality.

The trustees are asking for a commitment to make a regular donation to the Foundation. Sam's mother Christiane said, "As a token of our thanks, all those who sign up to make a donation by standing order will be entered into a draw next year to win a week’s accommodation at the Crane Hotel in Barbados. But we also want to encourage you to join us on this exciting journey. Money is important but so too are ideas and involvement.

"We want to invite everyone who buys a ticket to offer their thoughts on ways in which we can deliver our objective of Helping The Young Help The Young.

"We will keep you posted by email on how the Foundation is progressing but we want to hear your ideas on projects we might support, individuals we can help and fund raising initiatives.

"Thanks for all your support and good luck."
