A very special weekend tribute to one of the world’s greatest music icons with special concerts, films, Dylan talks, a Dylan walk, a Photographic exhibition and several Open-Mike and Dylan Jam Sessions

Friday April 18th
Photographic Exhibition: Images Of Bob; Leading Irish film-maker John T Davis nearly always includes Bob Dylan songs in his major Feature Film sound tracks. In 1989 Davis went to Greece to shoot some footage for Bob, during the days he spent there, some intimate photographs emerged of Bob, relaxing with his friends John Lee Hooker and Van Morrison.. some of these rare photographs will be on show, along with some more superb photographs by from Davis’s cult film HOBO. (Some photos will be for sale) Exhibition Opens 6pm

MUSIC
A Bob Dylan Gloss Club Session’
The Gloss Club (Singer Songwriters Open-mike,) will present an evening of singers, singing songs by the great Bob Dylan. Mc’d by Irish Singer Songwriter J Eoin. Guests will include travelling troubadour, Jinder.
A great singer of Dylan Songs, Jinder has performed throughout Europe, the USA and the UK. Open floor spots can be arranged. If you want to sing, meet J. in the bar at 6.45pm.

A ‘DYLAN’ Literary Walk ‘Bob / Dylan / Thomas’
Without Dylan Thomas, Bob Dylan would have been plain Robert Zimmerman.
Poet Niall McDevitt tells the story of the great Welsh poet, taking you via the site of his wife Caitlin Thomas's birth, and where the poet stayed frequently in the 1930's with writer Norman Cameron, in the 1940's with Caitlin at the house of Alan Herbert, and in the 1950's with actor Harry Locke. The story culminates in the tale of Caitlin's suicide attempt on King Street after Dylan's death, and a pint in the pub where Dylan wrote some of Under Milk Wood.
Starts 12 midday:

‘I Shall Be Free!’ Dylan Jam Session with CP LEE
The acclaimed writer, performer and poet C.P. LEE, will led a Dylan Jam, which will include part of his acclaimed ‘Lord Buckley Show’ and his song ‘Hezakiah Jones’, which was covered by Bob many moons ago. Bring your guitars, harmonica for this jam, which will take place at ‘The Ram’, a local music pub, on King St, just around the corner from The ICC.

The acclaimed Writer. Poet and Performer CP LEE will give his inspirational talk on Bob Dylan, his life and on the origins of his folk song-writing

‘Dylan Jam Session’
12.30- Upstairs at the Irish Cultural Centre.
Bring your instruments and join in the Dylan groove; There will be a ‘Swap and Meet’ - so bring any unwanted Dylan items and trade them with kindred spirits! If you’ve got nothing to swap, never fear - there will be lots of Dylan related merchandise on sale. A Bob Dylan table quiz will also take place; Cost: Free

Dylan Talk ‘All Dylans Are One’
Irisjh Poet Niall McDevitt traces the poetic and mythological origins of the iconic character that is Bob Dylan, finding sources in Dylan the Fish from the Mabinogion, the 6th century Welsh bard Taliesin, the 19th Century enfant terrible of French poetry Arthur Rimbaud, and the 20th Century Welsh Legend Dylan Thomas. Cost for single event £4:

Director John T Davis (1991 90mins cert 15)
Leading Irish film maker John T Davis set of on a dangerous illegal 2000 mile journey across America; hiding his camera in his bedrole he jumped trains and lived the life of Hobo to make this remarkable film. Encountering ‘Beargrease’, an ex-Vietnam vet, turned Hobo, as he rides the rails, this is an intensely personal portrait of him and other Hobos who Davis met on the way; The film features a stunning music sound track which includes songs by Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan.

The ‘Julie Felix Trio’ (featuring P.J. WRIGHT from ‘The Dylan Project’, with Anna Ryder)
Throughout her brilliant career, (spanning 40 yrs,) ‘the British Joan Baez,’ star of the 60s Julie Felix, appeared on stage with.. to name just a few.. George Fame, Donavan, John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Dusty Springfield… and Mr Bob Dylan.. A mesmerising singer of peace and protest songs, influenced by the events of those times, for this concert Julie will bring you songs from her top selling album ‘Starry Eyed & Laughing - Songs Of Bob Dylan’. Joining her will be guitarist P J Wright from THE DYLAN PROJECT and Anna Ryder. A memorable concert is promised.
