Music Month @ West 12 Centre


Watch live bands for free throughout August

For music month, the West 12 Centre has joined up with James Titchall from the Music House for Children to put together a schedule of music to celebrate the diversity of musical styles in Shepherd's Bush.  

There will be FREE live acts every Friday and Saturday throughout the month:  

Friday 8th, 5pm - 6.45pm: Nexus (Funk/Soul)

London-based 5 piece Soul band playing a blend of funky original material and classic soul tracks. The band have various residencies around the capital and have recently supported Omar and Little Brother.    

Saturday 9th, 2pm - 5pm: Ebony Steel Band

Ebony, founded in 1968, have been dubbed 'Europe's finest' steel band. They have built a reputation for musical excellence both nationally and internationally. In October 2000 and 2002, they were crowned the European Champions of the European Steelband Music Festival in France.      

Friday 15th, 6pm - 7pm: Isodore & Clay (Folk)

Isodore & Clay formed in early 2006. Having started out as two guitarists, the duo then added piano, bass and drums to the line up. Their sound mixes elements of folk, blues and jazz. They have justreleased their first album, ''Isodore & Clay'', on Taylor Maid Records.    

Friday 15th, 7.30pm - 9pm: Andy Cortes (Blues/Rock/Soul)

Andy is a talented young guitarist and singer/songwriter. His musical influences cover the spectrum of classic soul, blues and rock legends. He has played with artists such as Buddy Guy and Chaka Khan as well as playing supporting sets for Status Quo.    

Saturday 16th, 2pm - 3.45pm: Carmen Souza (World/ African Jazz)

Carmen Souza was born in Portugal within a CapeVerdian family. She started singing professionally at the age of 17 and having worked with some of Portugal's finest musicians and producers, released her first album, "Ess e nha Cabo Verde", in 2005. Her music blends traditional African rhythms with jazz and soul.    

Saturday 16th, 4pm - 5pm: Jonathan Idiagbonya (Salsa/Latin Jazz piano)

Jonathan was born in Nigeria. He began teaching himself piano at the age of twelve and since then, having moved to the UK, has toured and recorded with some of the foremost artists of jazz and salsa.    

Friday 22nd, 5pm - 6.45pm: Batusamba (Samba/ Afrobeat)

A multi-percussion rhythm combining Brazilian grooves with Afro beat and dance. A guaranteed explosive rhythmic and visual performance!    

Friday 22nd, 6.45pm - 8.15pm: Oompah Brass (Oompah/Oompop)

Oompah are a brass quintet who play classic pop and rock songs.

Saturday 23rd, 2pm - 5pm: Fantasy Band (Polish, Eastern European, Gypsy)Fantasy Band are a three piece combining piano, violin, drums and vocals. These fantastic musicians blend European folk and jazz, light classical and swing.      

Friday 29th, 6pm - 7.30pm: Daniel. E. Walker (RnB/Pop/Acoustic)

Daniel is a singer/songwriter whose rich voice and soulful melodies combine with smooth grooves for a mellow, uplifting listening experience.     

Friday 29th, 7.30pm - 8.15pm: Iman (Urban/RnB)

Iman is the winner of the National Music Awards 2006 for songwriting.

Saturday 30th, 2pm - 3.30pm: Elisa Caleb (Jazz Vocal)Elisa grew up in Barbados and began singing with gospel choirs whilst at college. She soon developed a love for jazz and in recent years has performed across the UK and Europe with many world class musicians. She releases her debut album later this year.    

Saturday 30th, 3.30pm - 5pm: Sofia Wilde (Jazz /Bossa Nova vocal)Originally from Harrogate, Sofia studied Musical Theatre at New YorkUniversity before moving to London in 2000 where she began performing in funk and soul bands at venues including Jazz Café and 100 club.
