Motorists Warned to  Expect Six Weeks of Delays in W12

As BT repair underground chamber on Uxbridge Road junction

Motorists are being warned to expect delays in the Shepherd's Bush area from next week as essential works by BT Openreach begin in Uxbridge Road.

From Monday June 24, the left turn from Shepherds Bush Green into Uxbridge Road will be closed for up to six weeks.
The rest of Uxbridge Road however will remain open to traffic in both directions. The work is expected to last for up to six weeks.

The closure, which is westbound only, is to allow essential work to repair a collapsed underground chamber in Uxbridge Road belonging to BT Openreach which, if left undone, could become dangerous. The chamber sits right on this busy junction.

The work is being carried out by contractors Carillion telent and Centercomms, on behalf of the telephone and broadband company, to safely demolish and then rebuild this underground chamber, also known as a manhole.

A diversion will be in place while the works are happening, with road users being diverted via Wood Lane, South Africa Road and Bloemfontein Road.

Computerised Variable Message Signs will give road users up-to-date information on the progress of these works. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted during the project and letters have also been sent to local residents and businesses. Regular updates will be given throughout the project to the council and to residents, from BT Openreach’s contractors.

The work will be carried out in three phases:

Phase 1: Demolition
The diversion will be set up and we will begin the demolition of the damaged Openreach manhole (expected duration is seven days).

Phase 2: Construction
Once the manhole has been demolished, works will start on the construction of the new manhole (expected duration is 30 days).

NB: At times the site may appear to look unoccupied but this may be due to issues like the concrete curing, but there will be information posters at the site to tell people what is happening during these occasions.

Phase 3:  Reinstatement
Once all construction work has been completed then the site will be closed down and reinstated (expected duration is four days).

The work is expected to finish by August 2 but it is hoped that, by extending the works at night and over weekends – where possible – the work may be finished sooner than that.

There will be no loss of telephone services to local residents and businesses.

For specific enquiries about these works, contact Carillion telent on Freephone 0800 526 015 during business hours, Monday to Friday, 8am - 6pm.
