A ‘topping out’ ceremony has been held at Macfarlane Place, the affordable housing development at Television Centre in Wood Lane, which means the main structure is now complete.

Meanwhile Peabody Homes has launched a website at https://www.peabodynewhomes.co.uk/developments/macfarlane-place/ for the development, which will provide 142 affordable homes, where people can find out more about what’s on offer and register their interest.

Macfarlane Place will consist of two buildings on the site of the former BBC multi-storey car park opposite Westfield, containing 71 flats available at London Affordable Rent, 34 at London Living Rent and 37 homes which can be bought using Shared Ownership.

Features include contemporary kitchens, modern fittings and fixtures, carpeted bedrooms and private outdoor spaces, plus a landscaped communal podium garden.

Energy-efficient heating systems, climate control and insulation mean all apartments will be rated as a B or above for energy performance. Solar panels on the roofs of both buildings will generate electricity for shared areas and services, while the planting of outdoor areas will provide residents with green spaces and encourage wildlife.

Macfarlane Place is part of Wood Lane’s Television Centre, a joint venture between Stanhope and Mitsui Fudosan UK, which will provide an overall total of 950 homes when complete.

Simon Barry, Regional Managing Director at Peabody said; “Macfarlane Place is a fantastic example of our commitment to provide affordable homes, whilst creating diverse, thriving communities in the heart of London.

“The 142 affordable homes will include our first homes for London Living Rent, alongside homes for Shared Ownership and London Affordable Rent. The excellent design by architects Maccreanor Lavington and the impressive green credentials developed in close collaboration with our partners will create high quality new homes, which will help residents to live lower-carbon lives at this iconic development.”

Stuart Togwell, Group Managing Director at builders Kier Construction, said of the ‘topping out’: “This is an important project to Kier and we are proud to celebrate this major milestone with Stanhope, Mitsui Fudosan and Peabody, and to be part of the redevelopment of the iconic BBC Television Centre.

“This event gives us the opportunity to mark the completion of the main structure and also to celebrate the hard work and fantastic collaboration between all parties involved.”

Peabody adds that remaining works at Macfarlane Place are on track for a final completion date early in 2024.
