The K West Hotel & Spa in Richmond Way in Shepherd's Bush is to close early next year to undergo a £40 million renovation.

After going through ‘a complete refurb’ it will then reopen in 2025 as part of the InterContinental Hotels Group, or IHG’s, Indigo chain.

This will be the sixth ‘upscale boutique’ Hotel Indigo in London, with 252 bedrooms, redesigned restaurant and bar, business facilities and spa with hydrotherapy pool.

Until now, the K West, which describes itself as a ‘holistic haven’ and ‘a secret paradise away from the turmoil of the city’ belonged to The Lancaster London Hotel Company, which operates a small group of independent hotels including the Landmark and Royal Lancaster.

In the past, it was one of the very few luxury hotels in the area close to the town centre, its transport links and of course to Westfield. However, it now faces stiff competition from new arrivals such as the Dorsett Shepherd’s Bush and the latest opening, The Hoxton, both a short distance away on the west side of Shepherd’s Bush Green.

Lancaster Landmark chief executive Fergus Stewart told trade magazine The Caterer that the new partnership with IHG would enable the hotel to compete with these new openings, admitting: “ We felt being independent in amongst that competition would be challenging.”

He added: "Through my experience with IHG we think Indigo is the perfect brand for us. It's quirky enough to allow us to be quite natural, feels independent enough for us to go in our own direction underneath that brand and there's nothing cookie cutter about it.

"We will put £40 million plus into the hotel so it's not an investment that the owners are looking to sell in the short term.

"It's a complete refurb, stripping the hotel down to its bare bones and reconfiguring the bedroom size, restaurant size and spa size as well as spending a lot of money on up to date electrical and plumbing systems that meet our sustainability objectives.

“ We're not building it for today, we're building it for ten years' time."

Plans for the project are currently being drawn up and the new partnership aims to close the K West in 12 months' time to begin the renovation.
