Television Centre has kicked off a promised Summer of Sport by installing four ping pong gaming tables in the Wood Lane development's forecourt.

The tables are free for everyone in the community to use and a company called The Art of Ping Pong, with a team of professional players, will be hosting public skills, drills and tournaments over the summer months.

These are no ordinary tables -  they are the result of a creative collaboration with The Art of Ping Pong, which says it fuses art with functional design,  and designer Kelly Anna, who is known for her powerful, silhouette figures with a strong focus on movement.

Television Centre says it chose Kelly Anna for her colourful and bold figures with a focus on sport.  While each design is unique, the four tables have been designed as a set to create a cohesive visual display.

The aim is to create a focal point for the community to gather, collaborate, connect and enjoy and Television Centre says the eye-catching tables will be a permanent installation on the site.

Kelly Anna said,  “I have really enjoyed partaking in this collaboration with Television Centre, creating a vibrant, social place for the community to interact and be active. The artwork is bespoke to the site and I love that it’s outdoors for everyone to admire.

"My work blends fluid lines and strong graphic shapes which I feel is representative of the surrounding architecture and strong design aesthetic of Television Centre.”

These "interactive artworks"  will be followed shortly by the return of Television Centre’s giant outdoor screen and its free Summer of Sport live programme, covering all the major sporting events in the coming weeks.

Ping pong fans meanwhile can also hone their skills at free to use tables provided by Ping!  at locations across Shepherd's Bush and beyond, including Westfield, Wormholt Park, Westway Sports Centre, Old Oak Community Centre and Lyric Square in Hammersmith.  You can find more locations plus hints and tips on getting started here.
