Refuse Collection Days Are Changing

Find out when to put out your rubbish and recycling

The Council will be collecting black rubbish sacks and orange Smart Sack recycling on the same day of the week starting from 2 February 2009.

Every household receiving a sack collection service will be sent a letter in January confirming the new collection day.

The new collection days are for street collections only. If you live in a flat with a communal rubbish and recycling service, you are not affected by these changes.

Black and orange sacks for basement properties will be collected from pavement level only, unless you have a disability and have registered for special help.

If you currently get a second refuse-only collection each week, you will continue to do so.

If your new refuse & recycling collection day is: Your extra refuse-only collection will be:
Monday Thursday
Tuesday Friday
Wednesday Saturday
Thursday Monday
Friday Tuesday

Street sweeping schedules are also changing so sweeping will take place on the same day as the collection day for each street.

In the run-up to the new same-day collection service, the Council has taken delivery of a new fleet of vehicles. Unlike the old-style refuse trucks, the new ones have two sections, one for black bags and one for orange sacks, so that both can be collected at the same time. This will mean fewer journeys, using less fuel, which is more cost-effective and better for the environment.
