Help raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care
Collections for Marie Curie Cancer Care's Great Daffodil Appeal are taking place in Shepherd's Bush on Saturday 14th March and the charity is looking for local volunteers to help out.
Each March Marie Curie Cancer Care encourages everyone in the UK to give a donation in return for a daffodil to wear in support of the charity. All money raised will help Marie Curie Cancer Care provide nursing care for people with cancer and other terminal illnesses in their own homes and the charity's hospices.
Last year in Hammersmith & Fulham, Marie Curie Nurses provided more than 1,000 hours of unique nursing care in the homes of terminally ill people. Marie Curie Cancer Care's services are free to patients, their families and carers but the charity can only provide these with your support.
If you have got a couple of hours to spare, turn these into Marie Curie Nursing hours by taking to the UK's streets to collect for the charity. 18,000 collectors are needed to man the thousands of collection points across the country during February and March.
If you have more time available, there are other ways to get involved. For example, the charity needs help organising the collections, or you could volunteer at your local fundraising office or distributing daffodil boxes to local supporters.
Lorna Clarkson, Marie Curie Nursing Ambassador of the Year for England, said: "Most people would want to be cared for at home if they were terminally ill. Marie Curie Nurses like me allow people this choice because we provide end of life care, totally free to patients in their own homes.
"I'll be out collecting to ensure more people get to die peacefully at home surrounded by their family after receiving the very best care. After all, everyone should have that choice."
