Music, food and creative arts in Hammersmith Park
A range of cultural activites will be on offer this Sunday
This Sunday (6 August) from 12.30pm to 5.30pm a Community Day is being held in the Japanese Garden in Hammersmith Park.
Co-organised by the Japan Society and the Embassy of Japan it promises to be a summer afternoon of family fun and entertainment.
Among the activities will be instruction on how to fold an origami animal, or how to write your name in Japanese. You can even create your own summer greetings card to give to your family and friends, a tradition in Japan during the warmer months.
There will be homemade wagashi from Café An an and onigiri from SushiHeads. Clearspring will provide of organic snacks and tea, plus plenty more snacks and sweets to try from Ichiba.
You can improve your gift wrapping with Tamakurya and their range of ful furoshiki; and learn all about the history of the garden with the Japanese Garden Society and Friends of Hammersmith Garden.
There will be an opportunity to find out more about the soroban (or Japanese abacus) with Tomoko Hoult; play games with Tulip London for the chance to win prizes; and become a kendama master with Kendama London.

Plus, expect epic performances from Thames Daiko, and join in the Bon Odori.

Hammersmith Park is off South Africa Road (W12 7FW). It can be accessed from the north via South Africa Road and the south via Frithville Gardens.
