Personal Bests Galore on Wormwood Scrubs

Parkrunners make the most of perfect conditions on Saturday

Just perfect running conditions at Wormwood Scrubs this morning for our 215th parkrun. 49 runners joined us for our weekly 5k including 10 first timers – welcome to all of you, we do hope you come back and join us again.

Almost one quarter of our runners this week recorded new personal bests, an amazing achievement, and a special shout out goes to Christian Nielsen who not only secured a PB but was first across the line in a super fast time of 18:40. Christian was followed by Jake Hooley in 19:01 and Daniel Haile in 19:05 (so close!). Both Jake and Daniel were first timers at the Scrubs, and today was also Jake’s first ever parkrun.

Another PB shout out to David Wilkinson who runs with Thames Valley Harriers and notched up his 50thparkrun today – congratulations David!

First female finisher this week was Phillippa KEAST in 19:51, her 4th time in 4 appearances. Sarah TAYLOR was second in 23:21 and Andrea BROUGHTON third in 24:12.

Current standing in the Men's annual points competition:
Manuel CORRIENTE (Vegetarian Cycling and AC) 572 pts.
Robert FERGUSON (Thames Valley Harriers) 557 pts.
Nick MICHAEL (Thames Valley Harriers) 497 pts.

Current standing in the Women's annual points competition:
Andrea BROUGHTON (Thames Valley Harriers) 497 pts.
Andrea CALDERWOOD (Unattached) 457 pts.
Amanda SHAKESPEARE (Unattached) 438 pts.

The following runners recorded the best Age Grade scores:
David PITT (VM60-64) was graded 82.43% for the time 19:27 (5th overall).
Phillippa KEAST (SW30-34) was graded 74.90% for the time 19:51 (7th overall).
Alex S HARRIS (VM45-49) was graded 74.55% for the time 19:19 (4th overall).

Good luck to Will Paynter who is running the Harry Hawks ten miler tomorrow. Get well to Marion and Fraser Brydson, who’ve been poorly and missed two weeks now. And happy month-long holiday to Fran Santos, we’ll miss you!

Huge congratulations to Paul Taylor who is the Sweatshop parkrunner of the month for June and wins a pair of new trainers from the Notting Hill store. If you don’t run for a club yet, you might want to consider joining the Notting Hill Sweatshop running club – free 5K runs every Monday night at 18:30 from the store (where you can leave your kit).

Personal thumbs up to my niece Sapphire who, with her younger sister Scarlet, visited the Scrubs today from Seattle and did a sterling job serving in the Club House.

Finally, a massive thank you to our volunteers this week – you are all wonderful, selfless people: front of house Ben LE ROUGETEL, chief hack Charlie LE ROUGETEL, the closers Fran SANTOS and Peter JORDAN, clock watcher Jerome MATIL, setter-upper  Kate O'DONOGHUE (extra points for bringing her own very summery orange flags!, visual artist Louise BROWNE, token man Manuel CORRIENTE, run director and minister of silly walks Martin GILLIES  and supreme scanner William PAYNTER.

We’re looking for someone to close the show next week and, in my absence, write the run report. If you can help, please drop the office a line at wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com.

Have a great week!
Charlie
