Charlotte Le Rougetel brings the latest news from Wormwood Scrubs

Parkrun 221 - August 28

The weather forecast for 9am on Saturday 28th August was 16 degrees and cloudy - perfect. Of course, as soon as the clock struck 9am, the sun crept out from behind the clouds and the reality was quite different. Much of the 5k run was sunny. All of it was muggy. That didn't stop Thomas Durcan from Derwent AC Cockermouth from crossing the finish line in a most spectacular time of 16:57, his second time in two appearances. Amazing time Thomas, well done. And a new PB for him.

Thomas was one of just 31 runners joining us for the 221st Wormwood Scrubs parkrun. It seemed that many of our regulars had made the most of the bank holiday weekend to escape London for a few days. We did have some tourists, including one who'd come the three mile journey from Gladstone Park!

In second place was Sage PEARCE-HIGGINS in 18:01 (new PB!) and Matthieu PREVOT of Clapham Chasers RC was third over the line in 18:15. Mattieu also volunteered as barcode scanner - thank you very much!

First recorded female to cross the line was Marta SAWICKA of Imperial College Cross Country & AC in 21:54, her 4th time in 5 appearances and another brand new PB. Amy INGRAM was second in 27:15 and Lan-Lan SMITH was third in 27:19.

Current standing in the Men's annual points competition and event director Robert FERGUSON (Thames Valley Harriers) is well and truly back from injury with 1020 pts. Rob aslo volunteered by closing down the course - thank you Rob! Manuel CORRIENTE is less than 100 points behind with 949 pts and Nick MICHAEL (Thames Valley Harriers) trailing them in third with 917 pts.

Amy INGRAM is currently topping the female points table with 754 pts. She is followed by Andrea BROUGHTON (Thames Valley Harriers) with 697 pts and Kirstie TEW (Thames Valley Harriers) who has 692 pts. Kirstie has regularly been arriving at 0815 on parkrun days to set the course up with Nick MICHAEL so huge thanks to you two.

Our first place runner Thomas DURCAN also topped the age-graded table this week with 76.20%. Matthieu PREVOT was graded 73.15% and Sage PEARCE-HIGGINS was graded 71.97%.

Seven of our runners recorded new PBs this week - congratulations to Will Walder, Ghassem MAQSUDI and Lorraine KILLEEN. Also a very special congratulations to Scrubs regular William Paynter who not only got a PB, he got a PB on his 50th parkrun! WELL DONE!

Big thank you to our volunteers, who keep coming out to support the Scrubs parkrun come rain or shine to make sure the event takes place for everyone else. If you'd like to be a hero, you can check the roster and volunteer here. Next week is looking bare and the rest of September is practically empty.

Thank you!!! Ben LE ROUGETEL • Bradley CAHOON • Charlie LE ROUGETEL • Christian NIELSEN • Debbie PETERS-MILL • Kirstie TEW • Matthieu PREVOT • Nick MICHAEL • Robert FERGUSON.

Next Saturday's run will be the last for event director Martin GILLIES, who's been an amazing volunteer at the Scrubs so please join us in the clubhouse to say goodbye to him and thank him for his time and support over the years.

Have a great week and happy running.

Charlie.

Parkrun 220 - August 21

It was very hot and humid at The Scrubs this weekend for parkrun. It also a felt a little quieter than normal with just 41 runners joining us and many of our regulars away for summer holidays.

The heat didn't seem to affect the speed of our fastest participants, though, which Oliver CAUDWELL crossing the line first in just 18:31. He was followed by Elliot DOBIE in 19:37 (both first timers at The Scrubs) and Dave GARDNER in 20:10. First female finisher was Siana JONES in 21:45 followed by Jasmine SANDALLI in 24:03 and Muriel DEMARCUS (VW40-44) (Unattached) in 24:25.

The top age-graded runners this week were all men - Dave GARDNER with 72.56%, Oliver CAUDWELL with 70.39% and Michael MCCORMICK (VM50-54) with 69.77%.

Current standing in the Men's annual points competition:
- Manuel CORRIENTE (Vegetarian Cycling and AC) 949 pts.
- Robert FERGUSON (Thames Valley Harriers) 933 pts.
- Nick MICHAEL (Thames Valley Harriers) 832 pts.

Current standing in the Women's annual points competition:
- Andrea BROUGHTON (Thames Valley Harriers) 697 pts.

- Andrea CALDERWOOD (Unattached) 643 pts.

Thank you to our volunteers this week - tea man Ben LE ROUGETEL • run report writer and washer upper Charlie LE ROUGETEL • timer Debbie PETERS-MILL • run director Martin GILLIES • flag man Nick MICHAEL • time keeper Peter GOUGH • unflag man Peter JORDAN • finisher Stephen HUTCHINSON • and third flag man and excellent sunglasses wearer William PAYNTER.

Next week we are looking for runners to help with barcode scanning, finish tokens and photography. If you can help please email us: wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com. And in September there are huge gaps in the roster so please step up the plate if you possibly can.

Congratulations to Peter Jordan who ran his 100th parkun last week. He was also sporting his volunteer tee shirt this week, too. And a big whoop to Candace who returned to The Scrubs this week after a month away to run her 50th. Well done both and thank you for volunteering. A special mention to Nick Michael, too, who has run 48 out of the last 52 Wormwood Scrubs parkruns!

Event director Martin leaves London for Plymouth and life as a mature student in September, so join us in the Clubhouse in two weekends time. I'm sure there'll be a bit of cake.

Happy running. See you next week.

Charlie
