Primary School Presents Putney Common Musical

Raises important questions on future of our parks

All Saints’ Church of England Primary School presented “Genius of the Common” on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon to members of the school and local community, their parents and families.

A stage is set with flowers, birds, trees and grass. Reception children join the idyllic scene, dressed as bunny rabbits lolloping and butterflies fluttering! What could possibly go wrong?

This was the question addressed by All Saints’ School in Putney, whose latest whole school production was written and composed by Patrick Gardner, a teacher at the school.

What will happen to our green spaces? What can we do to protect them for future generations? Lightly covering local history from the Romans through to WWII and then beyond into the far future, children acted out scenes which looked into these issues, in the hope that, wherever their lives lead them, they will always carry a space in their hearts for parks and commons, greens and woodland spaces.

With over 200 children taking part, lighting, costumes, upbeat music and a substantial leavening of comedy, Genius of the Common was an experience that the school and local community will remember for many years to come.
