Royal Mail Vacate Silver Road Site

Callers' Office relocates to Askew Road this week

The Royal Mail have moved out of their offices at Silver Road – but it is not clear what will now happen to the site, to the north of Westfield.

Royal Mail say they left the building because their lease was about to expire and they have relocated their delivery operations to a “state-of-the-art, purpose-built, modern delivery unit” in Park Royal.

However, residents wanting to collect parcels will not need to trek over to NW10 for them, as a new Royal Mail counter is due to open up in Askew Road Library this week: “At our new Askew Road site, shared with the local library, you'll have full access to all the customer facilities you currently enjoy at Silver Road, including the option of collecting items we've been unable to deliver,” Royal Mail say in a letter to residents.

As part of the relocation, the post box currently outside the Silver Road office will also be removed.

Explaining the move, a Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We have already relocated our delivery operation from this site as we have to vacate the building since our lease is coming to an end. Hence we are now relocating the Callers' Office locally, so that customers in W12 retain local access for collection of parcels and items that have to be signed for etc.

"We have been able to come to an arrangement with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham to site our Callers' Office in the library on Askew Road. We wrote to all customers in W12 earlier this month to confirm the details and customer notices have been displayed in the old Callers' Office. As Royal Mail does not own the site we do not know what the future plans are.”

The move is part of Royal Mail's “ongoing modernisation work” which will involve the relocation of six Delivery Offices in west London by January 2011.
