Fruit and veg traders at Shepherd’s Bush Market have joined other market traders in the borough in accepting Rose Vouchers for fruit and vegetables.

The Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg Project helps families on low incomes across Hammersmith & Fulham by providing weekly vouchers which families spend on fruit and vegetables. The recruitment of Shepherd’s Bush Market traders sees the Rose Vouchers project expand to its second market in the borough, alongside North End Road Market where the project was established.

Following support from the new market management company - Yoo Capital Investment Management, three traders from Shepherd’s Bush Market have begun accepting Rose Vouchers, with a fourth stall soon to follow. These are Strawberry Hill who run two stalls and Steven Hill & Son’s Fruit & Veg, all based at Shepherd’s Bush Market.

These new stalls could help support over 230 families currently receiving Rose Vouchers in Hammersmith & Fulham, expanding their choice of fruit and veg locally. Feedback from families has been very positive, with comments about the excellent quality of the fruit and veg available at Shepherd’s Bush Market and friendly stallholders.

The project works in partnership with four local Children’s Centres that distribute the vouchers to families. Fulham Central and Masbro began distribution in 2017, with Flora Gardens and Ray’s Playhouse joining in 2018, and Old Oak Children’s Centre set to begin distribution soon. To register for the vouchers families should contact their local participating Children’s Centre.

Jonathan Pauling, Chief Executive Alexandra Rose Charity. “We have been working towards signing up traders from Shepherd’s Bush Market to broaden our offer and give more families access to fruit and veg at this great market, since the Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg Project launched in Hammersmith & Fulham. We’re thrilled that three traders have joined the project so far from Shepherds Bush Market. We know this will make a big difference for many families in the community.”

Cllr Sue Fennimore: “As a long-standing supporter of Alexandra Rose Charity, I’m delighted to hear traders at Shepherd’s Bush Market have joined their Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg Project. This historic market is a wonderful addition to the Rose Vouchers project giving many more families in Shepherd’s Bush, easier access to a market where they can spend their vouchers on good quality fruit and vegetables.”

Since the project launched in 2017 in Hammersmith & Fulham, £118,169 worth of Rose Vouchers have been redeemed with market traders in the borough.
