W12 Festival Takes Over White City on Saturday

With music from local talent, sports, games, food and family fun

Festival fever hits W12  on Saturday July 25, with this summer's local street party, the W12 Festival.

The festival, celebrating the vibrant community in Wormholt and White City, builds on the success of the last 3 years, will focus on celebrating local talent and providing a platform for up and coming artists.

A large number of local residents are on the bill performing on two stages alongside headliners Leslie Lewis Walker, Bate Nate Hussein, Pryme Kingz and Akelle Charles Supported by Television Centre, local residents have also been appointed as stage Dj’s and MC’s for the day.

Back by popular demand, the ferris wheel and giant inflatables will take centre stage on Commonwealth Avenue and the green spaces alongside the festival site.

But this is so much more than a music festival, sports and games will be led by Queens Park Rangers and London Sports Trust, dance workshops will add to the party atmosphere in the Community Champions field and interactive art will decorate the railings of the creative corner.

Thanks to Snappysnaps of Shepherd's Bush, local children will be given the opportunity to document the event this year from their view point using free disposable cameras with the photographs to be displayed at an exhibition in the heart of the community in the Autumn.

There will also be a great selection of international cuisine for sale on the day and a community picnic spot created to encourage locals to meet and eat together. Hammersmith Community Gardens will be hosting their much loved tea garden next to our W12 Unplugged stage, providing a chilled out haven amongst the high energy party atmosphere of the rest of the site.

The organisers Big Local say W12's businesses have once again given generously to the raffle which now boasts truly fantastic prizes and there will also be lots of exciting items for sale from marketplace stalls, with a large array of handmade products.

Over 40 local service providers will have information stalls and the Big Local talent zone will provide a platform to promote and celebrate residents who have been funded through the Big Local Community Chest to run workshops and projects in Wormholt and White City.

Local residents have supported the festival by running auditions, leaflet dropping and sewing bunting and getting together to plan the event.

Big Local is an exciting opportunity for residents in 150 areas around England to use at least £1m Lottery funding to make a positive and lasting difference to their communities. It’s about bringing together all the local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make their area an even better place to live.

In Wormholt and White City Big Local has been busy supporting the ideas and aspirations of local people through Community Chest Funding, providing a voice for local young people though the Youth Bank and promoting and providing services for families through the Children and Families working group.

A befriending project has made a huge difference to the elderly and isolated in the local area and the Open Spaces group have been working on the ongoing transformation of green spaces throughout Wormholt and White City.

With the initial £1m allocated for Wormholt and White City match funded by Hammersmith United Charities, the potential for a lasting and sustainable positive impact on the community through the Big Local initiative is huge.
