Westfield to Host Ten Day Sustainability Event
Give a new lease of life to old clothing with a selection of upcycling workshops

A free festival is to take place at the Westfield London shopping centre which will include a range of events, hands-on experiences, workshops, and product showcases on the theme of sustainability.

The Good Festival will be taking place over 10 days from 26 May and 4 June. The aim of the event is to showcase how visitors can take positive steps to support a more sustainable future in an interactive way.

The centrepiece of the festival will be the Sustainable Studio, an immersive space which will include The Mindful Market, Gastronomy For Good, and Local + Lofi.

Activities in this area will include a display of farmstands from Square Mile Farms which will allow visitors to reconnect with food through micro-farming, whilst also teaching workshops focused on the benefits of growing from food scraps. The food offering will feature hydroponic Farmstands and visitors can also learn how to grow their own produce at home. Kids can get hands-on with seeded paper crafts and make stuff with recycled cardboard with Iced Gem events and there will be a brand-new wormery at Westfield London’s Nature Reserve, with a presentation from Ester the Beekeeper.

Gastronomy-themed events include Too Good To Go co-founder, Jamie Crummie, who will talk about good consumption and reimagining food, as well as chefs showcasing recipes and demonstrating how to re-use food waste.

Local and Lo-Fi will be a multi-use entertainment space that celebrates all things local. From live music performances, workshops for kids and beyond, this zone showcases a range of locally sourced experiences.

The Mindful Market will include opportunities to buy vintage clothes and Verte, a London-based clothes-swapping brand will be present. Depending on the quality of each item you bring to the swap, Verte will give you a corresponding number of digital tokens. They will have a sliding scale, from high-street to luxury, so no one loses out.

Lone Design Club are launching “The Glass House” pop-up experience across the month of May, featuring a range of young sustainable fashion and lifestyle brands. Alongside the immersive retail offering, Lone Design Club will host a programme of events of which will take place on the Lo-Fi stage. Visitors can participate in a full schedule of free events, including workshops, talks and styling sessions and a talk on sustainability in the industry from Lone Design Club’s CEO, Rebecca Morter, who will be joined by other speakers on sustainability.

Revolving partners in the Sustainable Studio will include a workshop from VAMP Sneaker Cleaning which will explore the intersection of the sneaker industry and sustainability. This will cover tips and tricks for keeping sneakers clean and looking their best, including the best products and solutions for sneaker care. Lydia Bolton will be teaching visitors how to remake, mend and give a new lease of life to old clothing with a selection of upcycling workshops ranging from learning how to mend items, to embellishing and transforming clothing with scrap fabric.

In the evenings, there will be performances by local artists curated by Bush Hall.

A post-project report will measure the impact of the event providing transparency and allowing benchmarks and goals to be set to inform future targets.
